Ruchango Marembo, Rwanda
about the project
The proceeds from Amsterdam Coffee Festival in 2014 went towards our first project in Rwanda. In the Ruchanga Marembo community in Rwanda, women and girls used to walk two hours a day to collect water for their families. This water was often unsafe to drink and made people sick.
Project Waterfall partnered with charity: water to install a piped system tap stand in the community to limit the amount of time women spent collecting water. Each family who uses the water contributed to its construction and helped to build structures surrounding the water sources to ensure they were protected from contamination. Additionally, the families continue to pay a small fee that goes towards necessary maintenance and infrastructural repairs.
Project Waterfall continues to partner with charity: water, and we are looking forward to collaborating on future projects. Please help us to solve the global water crisis by contacting The Allegra Foundation and ask what more you can do today.
